BLACKPINK: K-Pop sensations

BLACKPINK are in our area, and they are here to stay. In 2016, the all-girl act debuted with the dream of becoming K-pop idols: it’s safe to say they achieved that, and much more.

Notable Record(s):

  • First female K-pop group to reach No.1 on the UK and US album charts

An ICON because...

BLACKPINK – the K-pop powerhouse formed by Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé and Lisa (South Korea/Thailand) – need no introduction.

After debuting under YG Entertainment, the four-girl act quickly gained worldwide fame thanks to their catchy lyrics and mesmerising choreography, contributing to the global rise of K-pop.

They broke their first record in 2020, after the video for “How You Like That” was played a whopping 86.3 million times (snatching the record title for most viewed YouTube video in 24 hours, now broken). The girls went from strength to strength, and, in 2022, they became the first K-pop girl act to top the UK and US albums chart.

As of 26 Nov 2025, they were also the most viewed and most subscribed band on YouTube (40.772 billion and 99.3 million, respectively).

Today, the artists continue to rack up accolades and several world records – both as BLACKPINK and in their solo careers.

However, their influence expands beyond the music industry.

In November 2023, after the group encouraged their fanbase (known as Blinks) to participate in the 2021 UN Climate Change Conference, BLACKPINK became the first K-pop band to be awarded honorary MBEs.

The ceremony took place at Buckingham Palace in London, UK.

It doesn't matter if we grow old or get replaced by a new generation as long as there are still people who remember that we shone so bright.
